Devalsari Society’s Conservation Journey and the Western Himalaya Sangam

Tucked away in the forested hills of Tehri Garhwal, a quiet but powerful movement is taking shape. In Devalsari, local communities are coming together to protect their forests and biodiversity.

Led by Arun Prasad Gaur of the Devalsari Environment Protection and Technology Development Society, and supported by the youth of Bangsil, the community is working to have Devalsari declared as Uttarakhand’s first Biodiversity Heritage Site.

This film also captures the spirit of the Western Himalaya Vikalp Sangam, held in Devalsari in February 2025. A four-day gathering of changemakers from across the region who came together to share experiences and explore alternative, community-driven pathways for a just and sustainable future.
